Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju’s scheduled property auction at Garam Investments Auctioneers in Westlands, Nairobi, was called off on Tuesday after no bidders turned up.
Tuju was present at the auctioneer’s premises as the sale of his 20-acre Entim Sidai Wellness Sanctuary in Karen was expected to take place.
The property had been placed on the market by Garam Investments Auctioneers as part of efforts by the East African Development Bank (EADB) to recover a debt owed by Tuju-linked Dari Limited. Reports had put the disputed debt at about Sh4.5 billion.
The failed auction came hours after Tuju disputed the planned sale, maintaining that the property remains the subject of ongoing legal proceedings.
In a notice published on Tuesday, Tuju said the matter was before the Auctioneers Tribunal and the High Court, and also referred to a case involving Dari Limited and EADB before the Supreme Court.
The former Cabinet Secretary has previously contested the lender’s attempts to recover the debt through the sale of his properties.
The latest auction targeted Entim Sidai Wellness Sanctuary, a sprawling property in Karen that includes a residential compound and hospitality facilities. An earlier High Court decision suspended the sale subject to Tuju depositing Sh50 million, while the court upheld the sale of other properties linked to the dispute.
The auction was ultimately unable to proceed after prospective buyers failed to show up.
The development is the latest twist in Tuju’s long-running legal and financial dispute with EADB, which has seen several of his properties placed under the hammer.
In 2024, Garam Auctioneers conducted the sale of another Tuju-linked Karen property, Dari Coffee and Garden Restaurant, which was reportedly sold for Sh450 million.
