Charles Owino, the former spokesperson of the National Police Service, has made startling allegations against Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition. In a Thursday morning interview on Citizen TV, Owino claimed that Raila Odinga is being used by certain politicians for their personal interests.
Describing Raila Odinga as a statesman, Owino expressed his belief that the opposition leader should not be involved in the ongoing nationwide protests. He asserted that Raila should be representing Kenya and Africa at the global level, rather than engaging in local protests.
However, Charles Owino refrained from naming the politicians who are allegedly manipulating Raila Odinga for their gain. He did mention that he intends to reach out to the opposition leader to discourage him from participating in further protests.
During the interview, Owino emphasized his personal connection to Raila Odinga, stating that he is his relative, and he is determined to prevent him from being misused by others.
In other political developments, Charles Owino was appointed UDA's (United Democratic Alliance) Siaya County Coordinator on Wednesday, replacing Dianga Waore, who was appointed as the Chairman of Lake Region Development Authority by the Kenya Kwanza government.
The ongoing anti-government protests have been called for by the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition to address various issues affecting Kenyans, including the rising cost of living in the country. Raila Odinga and his opposition allies have vowed to continue agitating for their rights as Kenyans and push the government to address these concerns.
The opposition's demands also include the reformation of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the repeal of the Finance Act 2023, which was signed into law by President William Ruto but was later suspended by the High Court following a petition filed by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah. The Finance Act proposes an increase in taxes on basic commodities and other measures.
