A massive fire broke out in Mukuru Kwa Reuben, Nairobi, on Tuesday mid-morning following a gas cylinder explosion, causing widespread destruction and loss of property.

The fire, which started in one of the slum's homes, quickly spread to surrounding structures. Despite residents' efforts to contain the blaze, it rapidly escalated beyond control.

Eyewitnesses criticized the County Government of Nairobi, citing a lack of accessible water and poor road infrastructure, which hindered fire emergency services from reaching the scene promptly. Emergency services were unreachable, delaying the fire-fighting response.

Videos shared online showed massive flames and thick smoke rising into the sky, with residents pleading for immediate help as the fire ravaged homes. While no casualties had been reported by the time of this report, many families were feared to have been left homeless as the fire destroyed numerous homes while residents were at work.

This incident occurred just six days after another fire engulfed Mukuru Kwa Reuben last Wednesday, adding to the growing number of fire outbreaks in Nairobi's informal settlements.

A similar fire broke out on Muratina Road in Eastleigh on October 16, raising concerns over fire safety in these vulnerable areas. Police are expected to conduct investigations into the latest incidents.
