Gospel artist Kambua Manundu has revealed her internal struggle when asked the seemingly simple question, "How many children do you have?" In a heartfelt TikTok video, she shared that this question is difficult for her to answer because of the losses she has experienced.
"Do I say I have two children because I have two at home? Or do I say I have three because I gave birth to three and one passed away? Or do I count four because I had a miscarriage?" she asked.
She went on to explain, "I really don’t know how to answer that question because each pregnancy was significant, and I valued every child I carried and wanted to hold."
Kambua’s emotional reflection comes as part of October’s Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to honor and remember those affected by miscarriage, stillbirth, and other forms of infant loss.
The "Ametenda Zaidi" singer shared her personal journey as part of the awareness campaign, recounting the births of her two children, Nathaniel and Natalie, and the painful loss of her second son, Malachi, who passed away shortly after birth in 2021. She also opened up about having experienced a miscarriage.
Kambua reflected on the challenges of conception and the emotional toll of losing a child, saying, "I never thought I would be the one in four who would have a miscarriage. I never thought I would be the one in eight who would experience child loss, but this is a reality we live with."
In her message of encouragement, Kambua reached out to mothers who have endured similar pain—those who have lost an embryo, experienced twin pregnancy loss, had stillbirths, or are struggling to conceive.
"This month is a reminder for all of you that you are seen, you are loved, and you are not alone. It’s going to be okay—from my heart to yours," she concluded.
