Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has filed a censure motion in the Senate to challenge the conduct of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Speaking to the media on Monday, Mungatana accused DP Gachagua of violating the law and failing to uphold the integrity expected of his office, citing breaches of his oath and the Kenyan Constitution.

Mungatana referred to Article 260, which classifies the deputy president as a state officer bound by Article 75 of the Constitution and the Leadership and Integrity Act. According to the senator, Gachagua's public statements since taking office have created division and tension among Kenyans.

"The statements made by DP Gachagua have marginalized sections of Kenyans and exacerbated ethnic tensions," Mungatana said. He highlighted issues such as employment in the public sector, resource allocation to devolved units, and incitement to defy county government directives as evidence of misconduct.

Mungatana further argued that Gachagua's actions amount to a violation of Article 75, which undermines the dignity of his office. He called on the Senate to express its "displeasure and disappointment" with the deputy president’s behavior, in accordance with Standing Order 101.

This move comes amid growing speculation that certain Kenyan leaders are preparing to push for Gachagua’s impeachment in parliament. Reports suggest a rift between Gachagua and President William Ruto, with Gachagua allegedly feeling undermined by individuals within Ruto’s inner circle.
