Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday said he had removed all the traps he had set at State House, allowing ODM leader Raila Odinga unfettered access to the Head of State. Speaking to Kikuyu stations from his Karen home, Gachagua said he removed the traps after noticing that his boss appeared to be reuniting with a former political foe.

According to Gachagua, his traps were so effective that the first time President Ruto met Raila Odinga, they did so in Uganda, many miles away from the House on the Hill.

"My boss and I had agreed to set up traps so that Raila does not join the government through the backdoor. I would check the traps every morning and evening," Gachagua said.

"I would constantly check the traps to see whether they had captured anything."

The second-in-command claims that as soon as he saw Ruto appear to be enjoying a newfound union with Raila, he slowed down and decided to observe from a distance.

"President Ruto is in charge; that is his house. I decided to step aside and watch from afar," Gachagua added.

"My traps were working very well because even when they decided to meet, they did so in Uganda as they watched Museveni's big-horned cattle."

During the interview, Gachagua stated that he abandoned the traps as soon as President Ruto and Raila began talking and decided to focus his efforts on the fight against illicit liquor.

Gachagua claims that after much introspection, he came up with the one-man, one-shilling, one-vote rallying call, which received support from the ODM leader.

"People shouted at me a lot and called me tribal because I had suggested that resources be allocated based on population sizes," Gachagua said.

"The same things I was saying, Raila came and said whatever the deputy president was saying was the right way."

DP Gachagua claims he removed all of the traps after realizing he could have been wrong about Raila all along.

He stated that, despite Uhuru Kenyatta's previous criticism of Raila, they eventually came to work together.

He used a similar example of his boss, President Ruto, who had now enlisted his former political foe to form what is now referred to as a broad-based administration.

"Uhuru Kenyatta told us Raila was bad, but they ended up working together. Ruto told us Raila was bad, but they are working together. I sat and wondered, was I Gachagua in the dark?" he posed.

"I started wondering why we beat Uhuru so much, saying we did not want Raila, we wanted Ruto, so the person who made us hate Uhuru has now been declared a good person by President Ruto."

Gachagua claims that his realization about Raila occurred after he stated that he supports the one-man, one-shilling, one-vote campaign.

"I realized that my traps would work against this man (Raila) who I have come to realize is helping me push for the one-man, one-shilling, one-vote revenue sharing formula call," Gachagua added.

"I went to State House very early one morning and removed all the traps because if they capture Raila, who will help me make these calls for the revenue sharing formula?"

"I decided that if Raila wants to go to State House at any time, I have no issue with that. He is saying the same thing I have been calling for."
