Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor began postmortem examinations on Monday for some of the mutilated bodies recovered from the Kware dump site in Nairobi.
Addressing the press, Oduor revealed that one of the bodies had been dismembered into two almost equal parts. He noted that the body was mutilated at the lumbar area of the lower abdomen using a sharp object.
Oduor disclosed that the victim may have succumbed to excessive bleeding caused by a head injury inflicted by a blunt object.
The pathologist mentioned that the examination of the remaining bodies would begin on Wednesday, July 17, with the bodies first undergoing x-ray analysis.
“This exercise will continue until we finish, as some body parts are missing. This will help us determine how many people were involved and their causes of death,” Oduor stated.
Oduor dismissed similarities between these deaths and that of Rita Waeni, who was murdered over six months ago. He clarified that in Waeni's case, most body parts, including the legs and trunk, were separately maimed.
“For Waeni, the legs were separate, each body part was separate,” Oduor explained.
Oduor's comments follow the arrest of a prime suspect linked to the deaths of over nine women whose bodies were found in an abandoned quarry-turned-dump site in Mukuru, Nairobi, as announced by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) chief Mohamed Amin.
Amin stated that the suspect was apprehended early Monday morning outside a club in the Kayole area of Nairobi while watching the Euro 2024 final match.
“As we were apprehending him this morning, he was in the process of luring another victim. As investigations progress, we shall be able to get hold of the victim,” Amin said.
“We are likely to arrest more suspects because we believe that he was not alone in committing this reprehensible act, and very soon we shall be able to arrest them. We shall cast the net wider,” he added.
