Former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter revealed on Monday that he was interrogated about his relationships with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his arrest on Sunday.

Speaking as he presented himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, Keter stated that the police questioned him about his alleged involvement in arms trafficking to Congo, which law enforcement authorities suspected.

“When I was arrested, I was asked about my relationship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and my relationship with the current Deputy President,” Keter said.

However, Keter insisted that his arrest was actually due to his outspoken stance on the anti-Finance Bill protests occurring across the country. He claimed the arrest was an intimidation tactic in response to his recent criticism of the government.

“Let us follow the rule of law, but generally, do not intimidate us into silence,” he added.

Keter further accused the Kenya Kwanza government of failing to fulfill campaign promises and misrepresenting facts to the Kenyan people, indicating indifference to the public's concerns.

His arrest, which sparked public outrage, was dramatic, with officers forcefully removing him from his SUV on Sunday. Keter's family, who were with him coming from church, were shocked by the incident, with some family members screaming during the arrest.

Later on Sunday evening, the DCI confirmed the arrest, citing that Keter had been under investigation for charges related to arms trafficking and incitement to violence.

During a roundtable interview on Sunday night, President William Ruto confirmed Keter’s arrest, stating that the police acted because Keter had failed to respond to law enforcement summons.
