EasyCoach, a prominent passenger and cargo transportation company in Kenya, has broken its silence following a devastating accident involving one of its buses in Kondele, Kisumu County, on the night of April 1, 2024.

The tragic incident occurred as the bus was ferrying students from Chavakali Boys High School back to Nairobi for the April holiday. The accident took place at the Coptic Roundabout along the Kakamega-Kisumu road around 9:45 pm.

In a statement, EasyCoach expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and extended heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. The company also provided an update on the injured passengers, stating that three individuals were admitted to the hospital but are currently in stable condition. They wished them a speedy recovery.

According to police reports, the driver of the 34-seater bus was not present at the scene following the accident. The vehicle lost control, collided with a rail guard, and overturned, resulting in the tragic death of one student, aged 17.

The injured students were promptly transported to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment, while the deceased was transferred to the mortuary pending autopsy.

EasyCoach assured the public that they are cooperating with authorities to investigate the cause of the accident. The bus has been taken to Kondele Police Station for further examination, and efforts are underway to locate the whereabouts of the driver.

As investigations commence, the company emphasized its commitment to safety and pledged to take necessary measures to prevent such accidents in the future.

The incident has sparked discussions among Kenyans regarding road safety measures, with some suggesting the enforcement of seatbelt usage and the employment of two drivers per bus.
