New details have surfaced shedding light on the circumstances leading to the demise of NTV journalist Rita Tinina.
According to a report filed at Kileleshwa Police Station on Sunday, Tinina was found unconscious in her home, with indications pointing towards a history of epilepsy.
The report, based on statements from the deceased's sister, revealed that Tinina had been battling a severe fever for five days leading up to her passing.
Tinina's sister, Helen Silau Njaga, reported the incident around 10:45 am after discovering her unconscious in bed at her Kileleshwa residence.
Upon arriving at the scene, Silau found Tinina unresponsive and immediately sought medical assistance. However, paramedics confirmed her lifeless state upon arrival.
At the time of her death, Tinina resided with her eight-year-old daughter.
Authorities transferred Tinina's body to Umash Funeral Home as investigations into the incident commenced.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Silau appealed for privacy during the grieving period, expressing shock at the sudden loss.
The news of Tinina's passing reverberated throughout the media industry, with colleagues mourning her as a pioneering figure.
State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed recounted Tinina's assistance during a challenging coverage assignment, highlighting her professionalism and grace.
Similarly, ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo acknowledged Tinina's significant contributions to journalism, offering condolences to her loved ones.
Tinina had a distinguished career, having worked at the Nation Media Group (NMG) before joining KTN News in 2012 as a senior reporter. She returned to NTV in October 2023, where she continued to excel in her field until her untimely demise.
