UDA Senator Kathuri Murungi Raises Concerns Over Ruto's Safety on Meru Roads

In a startling revelation on Tuesday, Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi claimed that President William Ruto's car experienced a tire blowout on the Embu-Meru Highway, putting the President's safety at risk.

Ruto, who was conducting a 3-day working tour in the region, reportedly faced a precarious situation when his vehicle's tire burst during the journey, according to the UDA party lawmaker.

Expressing deep concern, Kathuri issued an ultimatum to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), demanding immediate repairs to the road, which he described as nearly impassable. He urged the Director General of the authority to personally inspect the conditions of the roads in Meru, as well as the neighboring Tharaka Nithi and Embu Counties, to assess the progress of ongoing projects.

"The President’s car had to come to a halt after hitting a pothole. If the President himself is in danger on our roads, who is safe?" questioned Kathuri.

Sympathizing with the President, the Senator highlighted the potential national security risk that could have arisen from the incident. He pondered on the imagined consequences if the incident had occurred downhill with the speed of the Presidential motorcade.

Kathuri emphasized that Ruto's fortunate circumstance was that the vehicle was moving uphill at the time of the alleged incident. However, he expressed regret over the deteriorating state of roads in Meru County and accused KeNHA of negligence, despite receiving funds for road construction and maintenance.

Alleging possible embezzlement of funds through illicit tender awards, Kathuri suggested that such actions could be contributing to the sluggish progress of infrastructure development. It's important to note that these allegations could not be independently verified by Kenyans.co.ke.

As a stern warning, Kathuri reminded KeNHA officials that taxpayers demand accountability for the maintenance of roads. He threatened, "We are taxpayers, and if the roads are not maintained, then you will have to explain why you are in office."

Up until the time of reporting, neither the Office of the President nor KeNHA had issued a response to the serious allegations made by Senator Kathuri Murungi.
