KRA Implements President Ruto's Directive, Mandates Tax Payments via eCitizen Platform

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a significant shift in tax payment procedures, directing all mobile money transactions to be processed through the government pay bill number 222222.

In a press release issued on Friday, the tax agency revealed that this decision aligns with President William Ruto's directive to centralize the collection of government revenue for enhanced efficiency.

Effective immediately, taxpayers are urged to utilize the Payment Registration Number (PRN) or the Reference Number from the Payment Slips generated through KRA Business Systems, namely iTax, ICMS, EGMS, and KESRA IStudent, as the designated account number when making tax payments via mobile money platforms.

The statement issued by KRA emphasized, "For further information, please call our Contact Centre."

Instructions for Making Mobile Money Payments:

Option 1: Using PayBill Number 222222

  1. Enter PayBill number 222222
  2. Use the PRN (payment registration number) as the account number
  3. Input the specified amount from the PRN
  4. Enter your PIN and confirm the payment.

*Option 2: Utilizing USSD Code 222#

  1. Dial *222#
  2. Select the "Pay KRA bill" option
  3. Input the E-slip (PRN) number
  4. Choose payment mode as M-Pesa
  5. Enter your M-Pesa PIN to complete the transaction.
