Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of a section of Uhuru Highway, which is set to affect motorists for three days.

Starting from Thursday, October 19, and lasting until Saturday, October 21, the closure will impact a portion of the busy highway.

Motorists traveling towards Mombasa Road are advised to exit at the Haile Selassie roundabout and share the Nairobi-bound carriageway with traffic heading in that direction. They can then rejoin the Mombasa-bound carriageway at the Bunyala roundabout.

The closure is essential to facilitate maintenance work on this particular section of Uhuru Highway.

The statement issued by KeNHA, signed by Director General Kung'u Ndung'u, also advised motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic signs and guidance provided by traffic marshals and the police.

KeNHA has been actively involved in repair and maintenance work along lower-decker roads, including Uhuru Highway and Mombasa Road, which are linked to the Nairobi Expressway.

Earlier in the year, KeNHA had allocated Ksh9 billion for these repair and maintenance efforts, which were expected to span a two-month period.

The renovation project included tasks such as resurfacing the existing road, enhancing the drainage system, and creating infrastructure to support a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.

These repairs were particularly crucial in preventing flooding, especially as the El Niño season, which is projected to last from October to December, approached throughout the country.
