Kenyan Secondary Schools Sports Association Picks Kakamega as the Venue for Five-Day Ball Games Tournament
The much-anticipated Kenya Secondary School ball games are scheduled to begin on August 8, 2023, with Kakamega County playing the role of the host. The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) has selected Kakamega High School, Bukhungu Stadium, St Ignatius, Mukumu Boys, St Peter’s Seminary-Mukumu, Kakamega Approved School, and Masinde Muliro University as the venues for the tournament.
Over the course of five days, schools from various counties will converge in Kakamega to compete in a variety of disciplines, including football, volleyball, rugby, handball, tennis, and hockey. The organizers have put forth significant efforts to ensure that this year's event becomes a resounding success.
Schools acting as hosts are releasing their students in preparation for the tournament's commencement. The participating teams are expected to arrive on August 5-6, following the directive from KSSSA. During this period, referees assigned to officiate the matches will also undergo training.
The main spectacle of the tournament will be football, featuring mouthwatering fixtures. Pool A includes Shanderema Secondary School, the Western region football champions, alongside North Eastern champions Bute Secondary School, Agoro Sare, and Kirangari Boys Secondary School. Pool B comprises six-time national champions St. Antony Boy’s Kitale, Nairobi champions Dagoretti High School, Matiliku Boys High School from Eastern, and Serani Boys High School from the Coast.
In rugby 7's, Western will be represented by Koyonzo Boys, Vihiga High, Bungoma High, and Kimobo Secondary School. Other regions will also showcase their talent, with a total of 16 teams participating.
The tournament also includes girls' volleyball, which has been dominated by Kwathanze Girls Secondary School from Eastern, and boys' volleyball, featuring teams from various regions vying for the title.
The semifinalists of the tournament will secure slots for the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association games (FEASSSA), scheduled to take place in Rwanda from August 17 to 27, 2023.
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa expressed his delight and commended KSSSA for selecting the county as the host for this prestigious event. He assured participants of a warm and hospitable reception, with the county eager to showcase its peaceful and welcoming nature during the exciting sports extravaganza.
