Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has joined the chorus of President William Ruto's allies calling for the arrest of Opposition leader Raila Odinga, claiming that he is carrying out a coup against the government.
Wahome labeled Raila's actions as criminal and demanded his immediate arrest and prosecution. She expressed her concern over the opposition leader's failure to denounce violent protests that result from the demonstrations he calls for.
"It is unacceptable for the leader to call the demonstrations, and when it turns violent, where people are killed and property is destroyed, he has no mind or tongue to condemn the destruction," Wahome stated.
The ongoing collection of 15 million signatures by the Azimio movement to delegitimize the administration of President William Ruto has heightened tensions, leading Kenya Kwanza leaders to accuse Raila of inciting anarchy.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala, and Kimilili MP Didmus Baraza are among the other leaders who have publicly accused Raila of creating chaos in the country.
"For us who believe in the rule of law, Raila and the organizers must be arrested immediately because he continues to create chaos, anarchy, and destruction of property," Cherargei expressed.
Malala highlighted the economic sabotage resulting from mass protests. However, some ODM MPs have challenged the government to arrest Raila, warning that any such action would destabilize the country.
"The country is in danger of disintegrating if anything happens to Raila," warned National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi.
Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo cautioned the government, holding it responsible for any harm that may come to Raila. He emphasized the respect and stature that Raila holds in the country, urging the government to treat him accordingly.
