During the launch of Bodaboda Care, President William Ruto made a surprising revelation, stating that he has personally spent over Sh250 million fundraising for boda boda associations over the past 10 years.
Speaking on Monday, Ruto emphasized that the funds used for these initiatives came from his own pocket. He disclosed that he had conducted approximately 200 fundraisers for boda boda operators during this period.
"I have done almost 200 fundraisers for boda boda operators. I have used my own money for the past ten years, over Sh250 million in the bodaboda sector," Ruto announced.
He highlighted his long-standing support and defense of the sector, recalling a specific incident in Kisumu where certain forces were attempting to paint boda boda operators as criminals. Ruto firmly opposed this narrative and demanded that any criminals within the sector be treated as such.
"One time we were in Kisumu and there was a big push to say that boda boda operators are criminals and thieves. I stood up in that meeting in Kisumu and said boda boda operators are business people, just like other business people. And if there are criminals, they should be dealt with as other criminals are dealt with," Ruto recounted.
The president's revelation showcases his commitment to supporting boda boda riders and defending their reputation. By investing his own resources in fundraising efforts, he aims to uplift and empower the boda boda sector, emphasizing that it consists of hardworking individuals involved in legitimate business activities.
Ruto's substantial financial contribution over the years underscores the importance he places on supporting local entrepreneurs and ensuring the growth and well-being of the boda boda community.
