Rally driver Maxine Wahome was on Thursday, March 30, released on a Ksh2 million bond following her application on the same.

Maxine was, however, directed by Justice Lilian Mutende not to interfere in the case during the period that she will be out.

She was also instructed not to interfere with witnesses who had already recorded statements with the police.

Additionally, she was directed to submit her passport to the court besides being directed not to travel out of the country.

While making her determination, the judge ruled that the prosecution did not provide enough reasons to warrant the court to deny the athlete bond.

"The prosecution did not advance any compelling reasons to warrant the court to deny her bond," Justice Mutende ruled.

The rally driver was accused of the murder of her boyfriend and renowned rally driver Asad Khan.

Maxine was charged with murder on March 15, following months of investigations into the incident that occurred in December 2022.

Her release came a day after a probation officer recommended her release owing to her character and history.

“In view of the sentiments expressed by all parties and in regard to the information provided, the court may grant bail or bond to the accused with stringent measures aimed at protecting the safety and emotional well-being of the victims," read the probation report in part.
