Normalcy has returned to Nairobi's Central Business District after Monday’s daylong protests that saw businesses affected.
This is even as traders count losses from the destruction that occurred as a result of the demonstrations that saw anti-riot police engage the stone-pelting youth for the better part of the day.
A spot-check around the city showed busy streets with traders resuming their operations as residents go about their activities.
No heavy presence of security in the town with usual patrolling officers only being spotted.
Temporary roadblocks which had been mounted on entry points to the State House have been removed.
Police are yet to issue a statement on the exact number of those injured and arrests made as a result of the demonstrations in various parts of the country.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had earlier put the loss due to the closure of business at Sh2 billion.
"A number of businesspeople did not open shops due to fear of looters threatening businesses. So far, the country has lost billions from these protests across the country," Gachagua said as he called upon Azimio leader Raila Odinga to call off the protests.
Raila announced the protests to exert pressure on the government to address their concerns on the high cost of living and opening of IEBC servers claiming the 2022 election was stolen.
Interior cabinet secretary Kindiki Kithure Monday evening commended the police for their work in containing the protesters.
“The national police service has done our country proud, despite the day-long provocation by unruly protesters. Kenya must end impunity and apply one Constitution and one set of laws for everyone for enduring peace and stability of the nation,” he tweeted.
Raila has declared that the demonstrations will be held weekly.
