Parents of the late Jeff Mwathi on Tuesday, March 14, lamented over the slow pace of investigations stating that those who were with him at the time of his death were known but no arrests had been made.

Speaking to the media after recording statements at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations ( DCI) headquarters, his parents revealed that they were aware of the friendship between Mwathi and Lawrence Njuguna alias DJ Fatxo.

Peter Ngugi, Jeff’s father, explained that he had seen photos of DJ Fatxo and his son on the internet and knew that they spent time together.

However, he stated that he had not known DJ Fatxo well enough to be worried over his behaviour or influence on his son.

“We did not know the kind of friend he had. If we knew he was a bad friend, we would have warned him from the beginning.

“We only knew that they were friends and we saw them together on the internet like the other friends he had,”  Ngungi stated.

At the same time, Teressiah Nyokabi, Jeff’s grandmother stated that the investigations had affected her family, especially her daughter.

Jeff’s mother who was too overwhelmed to speak to the media fainted and had to be supported by other family members.

“They should try to speed up the investigations because my daughter is suffering.

“My daughter travelled from abroad and has been unable to eat. She has not eaten anything today, she only drinks water,” Nyokabi lamented.

On Monday, March 13, detectives assigned to the case stated that they sought to establish the relationship between Mwathi and DJ Fatxo and how long they knew each other adding that they were shouting for the help of experts to analyse the footage retrieved.

Moreover, the detectives also stated they wanted to establish the history between the deceased and the two men he was captured with prior to his death.

"It's strange that the two left Mwathi in the house and went down together, and when they were up, the deceased exited the house and died in the compound.

"There is a way under normal circumstances buddies will behave and this is a matter to be analysed with the help of experts and study of footages retrieved,” a report filed by the police read in part.

While speaking to the press on Sunday, March 12, DJ Fatxo stated that he was willing to cooperate with the police to unearth the truth.

Mwathi met his death on February 22, after falling from the 12th floor of a building and landing on a concrete floor.

It was later revealed that the house he jumped from belonged to popular Mugithi artist Lawrence Njuguna alias Dj Fatxo.
