Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua’s wife, Dorcas Rigathi, recalled meeting her husband at an event where she had planned to attempt suicide.

Speaking to KTN News on Thursday, August 18, Dorcas stated that she wanted to breach the security of the late President Daniel Arap Moi, an event her husband was attending.

In her plans, the second lady in waiting thought her actions would warrant the armed officers to open fire. However, contrary to her expectations, the police did not repel her. “When the President stood, I ran across in line with where he was. I did not know how it happened as it was God’s way of doing things. He (Moi) started coming towards me and I bumped into him.

“That is where I met my husband as he was in charge of the delegation,” she stated.

Addressing the challenges she was going through then, the pastor narrated that her childhood life was challenging as her father passed on while she was still young.

They left their father’s ancestral home after relatives turned against them. Upon returning to their mother’s home, they were forced to live in a chicken house and work as maids to make ends meet.

“With all those challenges, my mother managed to push through. She would trade beans and maize. We would also work on coffee farms to complement her hustles. As I look back at the challenges, I cannot believe I am where I am today,” she stated.

On her priorities as the incoming second lady, she stated that she will focus on issues affecting widows and orphans while drawing motivation from her own personal experience.

Additionally, she disclosed that she had a passion for empowering the boychild who has been neglected in recent years.

“I have seen how their life has really changed. When you go to the shopping centers you find them drunk. The boychild and the girl child must always be brought together and we should not emphasise empowering one.

“We must emphasise employment, and education so that there are equal chances for both of them,” she expressed.

Further, she described the DP-elect as a loving father and husband adding that they share a special relationship.

“Every wife must have something special they do for their husband. For me, for the last 35 years that I have been married, I iron my husband’s clothes,” the pastor recounted.
