Former journalist Kimani Mbugua received a glimmer of hope as media personality Oga Obinna pledged on Thursday evening to support and facilitate his treatment.
Oga Obinna picked up Kimani Mbugua from his home on Thursday afternoon with plans to take him to a rehabilitation facility.
In a video shared on Obinna’s social platforms, he, along with Kimani's father and a few friends, is seen escorting Kimani from his home. Obinna elaborated on the rescue mission's progress, noting that they had visited Mathare Hospital, a mental health and rehabilitation facility in the city.
"We passed by Mathare and are now waiting for instructions from Dad and Mum, then we proceed. We will give the final update by evening," Obinna explained.
However, at the time of this article's publication, Obinna had not yet provided an update on Kimani’s admission status at the rehabilitation facility.
Obinna’s intervention followed an interview he conducted with Kimani's father on his show, Oga Obinna Show Live, earlier this week. During the interview, Kimani's father disclosed that his son suffers from bipolar disorder and apologized to those affected by Kimani’s online outbursts.
He also appealed to well-wishers to assist the struggling journalist in any way possible.
Kimani Mbugua, a promising journalist, had a successful career working at Nation FM and later at Royal Media, where he appeared on Citizen TV, Inooro TV, and Hot 96. However, he left the public eye in 2020 and has since been open about his mental health struggles, reportedly exacerbated by heavy marijuana use.
Despite seeking treatment and showing signs of recovery, Kimani recently indicated a possible relapse through social media posts where he appeared angry and distressed, highlighting his unstable mental state.
