Lillian Ng’ang’a has encouraged Kenyans to rethink the value of time spent alone, saying solitude can offer clarity and emotional strength in a world that often pushes constant company.

In a message shared on Tuesday, 18 November, Ms Ng’ang’a posted a photo describing solitude as a “superpower,” arguing that many people avoid being alone because they fear confronting their own thoughts. The post, which quickly drew attention online, said: “Being comfortable alone is a superpower. Eating alone. Movies alone. Travel alone. Most people need constant company. They’re afraid of their own thoughts. But solitude is where you meet yourself. Where clarity lives. Where peace exists. If you can’t be alone, you’ll accept anyone. Master solitude. Then choose company.”

The sentiment challenged the common idea that fulfilment comes from staying surrounded by others. Instead, it suggested that meaningful relationships should be chosen from a place of strength rather than loneliness.

Ms Ng’ang’a endorsed the message wholeheartedly, adding her own caption: “As a master of this, I highly recommend! You are your own best company.” Her comment underscored her belief that spending time alone is not only healthy but deeply grounding.

She has spoken before about personal growth and the importance of emotional independence. Her latest message fits within that broader theme, stressing that solitude can help people understand who they are without leaning on others for direction or validation.

In her view, simple acts — eating alone, watching a film alone, travelling alone — can build confidence and resilience. She said the ability to enjoy one’s own company creates space for peace and self-awareness. It helps people make clearer choices about relationships, she noted, because they are no longer driven by the fear of being alone.

While some online users praised her message as empowering, others reflected on how challenging solitude can feel. But many agreed that her words offered a reminder that strength sometimes grows quietly, away from the noise and demands of daily life.
