The tranquil village of Gitei in Gathanje, Kiambu County, was thrown into disarray on Tuesday, March 26, as the funeral of TikToker Brian Chira unfolded in chaotic scenes, leaving locals bewildered and appalled.

Amidst the solemn burial proceedings at his grandmother’s ancestral land, a swarm of young TikTokers, known as the ‘Chira Clan,’ descended upon the village, eclipsing the traditional funeral customs with their rowdy behavior.

Contrary to the customary modest gathering expected at a burial, the funeral drew a boisterous crowd of Chira's friends and fans, who exhibited scant regard for village norms and elders.

Disorder erupted as the TikTokers, some intoxicated, disrupted the solemnity of the occasion, commandeering the gravesite activities with little regard for decorum.

Witnesses recounted scenes of drunken revelry, as TikTokers danced, recorded videos, and indulged in unruly behavior around Chira's gravesite.

The villagers, taken aback by the unexpected spectacle, stood by in disbelief as the TikTokers proceeded with unorthodox burial rituals, including watering flowers with alcohol, in a stark departure from traditional customs.

In the aftermath of the chaotic events, locals expressed their dismay and disapproval of the TikTokers' behavior, citing disrespect for cultural traditions and an utter lack of decorum.

One villager lamented the blatant disregard for dignity in the burial process, calling for a cleansing ceremony to rid the village of lingering negative spirits.

Further exacerbating tensions were the TikTokers' attire, public smoking, and urination, which were viewed as flagrant affronts to community values and upbringing.

Despite the outpouring of financial support from the TikTok community following Chira's tragic demise, villagers remained disillusioned by the disrespectful conduct displayed during his funeral rites.

While the funeral was attended by notable personalities and politicians, including Mumias East MP Peter Salasya and musicians Otile Brown and Justina Syokau, the focus was overshadowed by the disruptive behavior of the TikTokers.
