Sharon Barang’a Joins CGTN Following Departure from TV47

Former Nation Media Group journalist Sharon Barang’a has embarked on a new chapter in her career by joining China Global Television Network (CGTN) after her recent departure from TV47, where she had worked for the past three years.

Barang’a, who previously held the position of head of the education desk at TV47, took to her social media accounts to share the exciting news with her followers on Wednesday.

In her announcement, Barang’a expressed gratitude to everyone who had been following and supporting her journey, stating, "My new home 😊. This week, I started a new chapter in my career. To everyone who has been following up on my journey, cheering me up & praying for me… Asanteni sana."

Prior to her transition to CGTN, Barang’a bid farewell to TV47 in a memorable send-off party. In her farewell message, she expressed appreciation for her former employer and the support she had received during a challenging period in her life.

She shared, "My farewell party just went down. Today was my last day at TV47… I cried, I ‘crewed,’ it has been an emotional day leaving a company that received me warmly when I was going through a rough patch in my life. @tv47news became literally family to me."

Barang’a joined TV47 in October 2020 after her departure from NTV, a media outlet owned by the Nation Media Group.

In a previous announcement when she joined TV47, Barang’a expressed gratitude to her well-wishers and welcomed feedback on education-related stories. She shared her excitement about being part of the fast-growing TV station and her commitment to delivering meaningful content.

Throughout her career, Barang’a has gained recognition for her reporting on education, health, and children's issues. Her work has earned her prestigious awards, including winning the ICFJ's Early Childhood Development Reporting Contest in 2016 and being honored with the Mandela Washington Fellowship by the US Department of State in 2017.

With her move to CGTN, Barang’a is poised to bring her expertise and passion for journalism to an international platform, further expanding her impact and reach in the media industry.
