A somber atmosphere envelops Chavakali Boys High School following a tragic accident that claimed the life of one student and left several others injured. The incident occurred at Maboleo in Kisumu County, where an Easy Coach bus carrying students overturned at the Mamboleo junction on Monday night, around 9:00 pm.
Details emerging from the scene indicate that the students, homeward bound, were aboard the bus when the unfortunate event unfolded. Two students sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Avenue Hospital in Kisumu, while an additional 32 students are undergoing medical care at Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The bus company has acknowledged the incident, pledging to issue a comprehensive statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the accident. The ill-fated bus was en route from Mbale to Nairobi at the time of the tragedy.
A report from Kondele Police Station sheds light on the accident, revealing that the driver of the bus was not present at the scene when authorities arrived.
"It happened that the vehicle was negotiating the said Coptic roundabout on its way from Kakamega to Kisumu when the driver lost control, hit a rail guard, and the vehicle fell down at the edge of the road, resting on its left side," details the police report, outlining the sequence of events leading to the devastating accident.
As investigations into the incident unfold, the community mourns the loss of a promising student while rallying support for those injured, emphasizing the need for enhanced road safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
