Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has denied reports that Collins Jumaisi Khalusha — the main suspect in the brutal Kware murders — has been re-arrested.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the agency dismissed social media claims that the fugitive had been captured, calling the reports “false and misleading.”

“Our attention has been drawn to information circulating online regarding the re-arrest of Collins Jumaisi,” the DCI said. “We wish to clarify that the information is false. Jumaisi remains at large.”

Fugitive Still Being Pursued

Jumaisi, accused of multiple murders in Nairobi’s Kware area, escaped from police custody at Gigiri Police Station in August 2024 under unclear circumstances. His escape triggered a nationwide manhunt and led to disciplinary action against several officers accused of negligence.

The DCI confirmed that detectives are still pursuing the suspect, urging the public to disregard rumours of his capture and continue sharing credible information that could help trace him.

“The DCI continues to appeal to members of the public with information about his whereabouts to reach us through our toll-free number 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp 0709 570 000,” the agency said.

A cash reward of Sh1 million remains on offer for anyone providing information leading to Jumaisi’s arrest.

Public Cooperation Praised

The DCI also expressed gratitude to citizens who have been sharing information, noting that community cooperation remains vital in tracking fugitives.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the members of the public for their invaluable support,” the statement read. “Your willingness to assist in the search is greatly appreciated.”

A Case That Shook the Nation

The Kware murders — a string of killings targeting women in late 2023 and early 2024 — horrified the country and ignited fresh debate over safety in Nairobi’s informal settlements.

Several women were found dead in and around the Kware area of Embakasi, prompting outrage and demands for justice. Police linked Jumaisi to the killings after forensic evidence reportedly tied him to several crime scenes.

But his escape from custody raised tough questions about police accountability and the handling of high-profile suspects.

The DCI has promised to bring him to justice.

“The DCI remains unwavering in its commitment to apprehending Collins Jumaisi,” the agency said. “Our aim is to ensure justice for the victims and closure for their families.”

As detectives intensify the hunt, the families of those killed — and a nation still haunted by the crimes — wait for answers.
