Police in Kahawa West, Kiambu County, are investigating a tragic femicide case after the body of a woman was discovered in her boyfriend’s residence on Friday, November 1. This incident highlights a disturbing trend, with femicide cases rising significantly across the country.

The deceased, identified as 33-year-old Lilian Achieng' Aluko, a radio presenter at local station Radio 44, was found with severe injuries, including a facial wound and a fatal stab wound behind her ear. Authorities suspect her boyfriend may be responsible, as he has since disappeared, prompting a manhunt.

Lilian had last spoken with her family on Thursday, informing them she planned to spend the night at her boyfriend’s home. This turned out to be the last communication they had with her. "She left at around 11 a.m. and said she was going to visit her friend. She never returned. On Friday, shortly before 9 a.m., I received a call from an unknown number informing me of her passing," her mother recalled with sorrow.

A police report indicates that the couple had returned home after an evening out at a local entertainment spot. Shortly after, neighbors reported sounds of a violent confrontation from the apartment, but were unable to intervene as the door was locked, and loud music drowned out the commotion.

A knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, was found at the scene, and authorities are pressing to apprehend the suspect. Heartbroken friends and family described Lilian as a lively and positive individual. Her sister expressed her devastation, saying, "Her light has been taken too soon. All we wish for now is justice for her."

This case has intensified public calls for stronger measures to prevent femicides. National Police Service data reveals a staggering 97 cases in just the past three months. In response, President William Ruto has again called on law enforcement to intensify efforts to bring perpetrators to justice. Speaking at Divine Africa Church on Sunday, he reiterated the government’s commitment to address these crimes, underscoring the need for both criminal and moral interventions.

"How can it be our girls, the women of Kenya that expect us to love them, are now dying in the hands of men? We have a criminal problem and a moral problem; we need to address both," President Ruto stated.
