Three politicians allied to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have secured temporary orders from the High Court in Nairobi, blocking their arrest, detention, and prosecution. The court's decision on Friday provides relief to former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, ex-Embakasi West MP George Theuri, and Pius Munene.

High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to refrain from any action against the trio, while also instructing them to respond to the case within seven days. The case will be mentioned on October 15, 2024.

The politicians claim they were targeted for arrest over alleged trumped-up charges related to their involvement in youth-led anti-government protests in June. The DPP had approved charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony and money laundering, against five Gachagua allies.
