On Thursday, June 27, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) deployed armoured vehicles to specific parts of Nairobi, particularly roads leading to State House, in anticipation of protests.

A video seen by the media depicted a convoy of military vehicles along Lang'ata Road, believed to have been deployed from the Lang'ata Barracks. These included three trucks and four Land Cruisers carrying heavily armed KDF officers. The military vehicles were dispatched to Nyayo Stadium.

Some of the sophisticated vehicles included an armoured troop carrier, three Humvees, one light utility vehicle, two Land Cruisers, and three lorries.

The presence of these military vehicles in Nairobi has sparked debate among Kenyans, who argued that the deployment of soldiers was against a recent High Court ruling.

KDF soldiers have been deployed in Nairobi as the government moves to shore up security in response to planned demonstrations. A section of Kenyans threatened to march to State House to protest despite President William Ruto withdrawing the Finance Bill, 2024.

The High Court is expected to rule on the legality of the deployment of KDF soldiers to quell protests after the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) filed a petition challenging the move.
