A significant fire erupted on Wednesday evening in the Waruku area of Kangemi, engulfing several houses and triggering urgent calls for assistance from residents.

As the fire rapidly spread throughout the vicinity, residents reached out for aid in containing the flames, which posed a threat to neighboring properties.

At the time of reporting, the cause of the fire remained undetermined, and fortunately, no casualties had been reported.

Despite the escalating situation, fire engines from the Nairobi County Government had yet to arrive at the scene, prompting residents to resort to immediate measures to combat the blaze.

Robert Alai, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kileleshwa Ward, issued a plea for assistance via his official channels, emphasizing the urgent need for support in containing the fire outbreak.

"We urgently require assistance in Waruku due to a massive fire outbreak," stated the MCA in his statement.

Additionally, residents urged Kenya Power to intervene by cutting off power in the area to prevent further spread of the fire.

The inferno resulted in extensive property damage, as many of the houses in the densely populated area are closely situated.

The incident occurred against a backdrop of previous fire emergencies within the County, including a blaze on March 1 that ravaged market stalls along Waiyaki Way, disrupting businesses and causing substantial financial losses.

Similarly, on December 8, another fire incident devastated businesses in the Carwash area along Thika Road, resulting in significant property damage, particularly to furniture stores in the vicinity.
