In the wake of President William Ruto's somber announcement regarding the untimely passing of Chief of Defence Forces, General Francis Ogolla, questions have arisen regarding the circumstances surrounding the fatal plane crash that claimed nine lives alongside the military leader.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, took to his X account on Friday, urging for prompt investigations while raising several crucial questions concerning the tragic incident.

Among the inquiries posed by the outspoken lawmaker was the whereabouts of the West Commander at the time of the crash, alongside queries regarding the positioning of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Sergeant Major and the Army Commander prior to the ill-fated flight.

"Why was a whole CDF using one Helicopter with no 50ACB Helicopter Escort in an operation area?" Owino questioned, highlighting apparent lapses in security protocols.

Concerns were also raised regarding the presence of junior officers accompanying a senior military official like the Chief of Defence Forces, prompting Owino to seek clarity on the appropriate rank authorized to pilot a chopper transporting such a high-ranking figure.

Further queries delved into the protocol for CDF inspections within operational areas and the rationale behind General Francis Ogolla personally overseeing school inspections rather than delegating to subordinates.

In light of Ogolla's sudden demise, speculation arose regarding his successor, with Owino questioning the timing of the tragedy amidst recent changes within the Kenya Defence Forces.

President Ruto, in his announcement on Thursday, April 18, conveyed the sorrow felt by the nation following General Ogolla's passing, noting the circumstances surrounding the military chief's demise shortly after a strategic meeting addressing security challenges in the North Rift regions.
