A recent survey conducted by the Consortium of Researchers on Governance (CoRG AFRICA LIMITED) has identified Embakasi East MP Babu Owino as the frontrunner to succeed ODM leader Raila Odinga as the leader of the Luo Nyanza region.
According to the survey, which focused on public policy and governance in Nyanza, 51.8 percent of respondents believe that Babu Owino is best positioned to represent the region if Raila Odinga steps back from local politics.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga garnered 11.6 percent of the votes, placing her second, followed closely by ODM National Chairman John Mbadi with 10.3 percent. National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi and Home Affairs Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo secured 9.8 percent and 5.2 percent respectively, while 11.3 percent of respondents remained undecided.
CoRG CEO Charles Mc’Olonde, while releasing the survey findings, highlighted that 41.6 percent of respondents believe Raila Odinga should continue serving as their leader even if he secures the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship. However, opinions were divided, with 27.4 percent advocating for his retirement from politics and 31 percent yet to decide.
In Kisii Nyanza region, Kisii Government MP Simba Arati emerged as the preferred leader with 67.4 percent support, followed by Mugirango South MP Sylvanus Osoro with 10.8 percent. Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka was rated as the most vocal Senator from the region with 65.1 percent support in exercising his oversight role in the Senate.
The survey also evaluated the implementation of promises made by Nyanza region governors, with Governor Gladys Wanga of Homa Bay leading the ratings at 68.3 percent. In terms of projects and representation by county women representatives, Fatuma Mohamed of Migori County topped the list with a rating of 73.2 percent.
