National Traffic Commander Mary Omari has disclosed a series of traffic measures in preparation for the upcoming World Rally Championship in Naivasha and the concurrent Easter festivities.

Issued in a statement dated Thursday, March 21, Omari outlined nine specific measures aimed at managing traffic flow during the dual events. She emphasized the focus on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, where overlapping will be strictly prohibited starting Friday, March 22.

The restriction is geared towards facilitating smooth traffic movement, considering the influx of attendees for both the rally and Easter celebrations.

Furthermore, parking along the highway, particularly prevalent among truck and lorry drivers in areas like Kikopey and Gilgil in Nakuru County, has been banned to prevent congestion.

The World Rally Championship is scheduled to kick off from Thursday, March 28, and continue until March 30. Simultaneously, Easter festivities will commence from Friday, March 29, extending through to April 1.

Motorists intending to journey to Nyanza and Western Kenya during these periods are strongly advised to explore alternative routes due to expected heavy traffic on the Nairobi-Naivasha route.

"Motorists heading to Nyanza and Western are advised to use the Narok route after Mai Mahiu. Motorists headed to Nakuru from Central are advised to divert at Thika and proceed to the Safaricom Foundation route," Omari advised.

To ensure effective traffic management, sufficient police deployment will be stationed along the Nairobi-Naivasha route. Police will not only oversee traffic flow but also enforce traffic regulations to uphold safety.

Omari also announced the prohibition of roadside vendors during the Safari Rally event, especially in Naivasha, to prevent disruptions to traffic flow and ensure the safety of all road users.

Additionally, police will secure routes designated for rally spectating, while informative signages will be installed to guide both motorists and spectators alike.
