In a significant development, law enforcement authorities made arrests on Monday, February 12, related to the daring jailbreak of murder suspect Kelvin Kang'ethe from Muthaiga Police Station on Wednesday, February 7.

The brother of Kelvin Kang'ethe, suspected of aiding in the meticulously planned escape, was apprehended by police, signaling a breakthrough in the ongoing investigation. Kang'ethe is believed to have rendezvoused with his brother in Kiambu immediately following his escape and has relied on him as a primary contact since then.

Furthermore, Kang'ethe's girlfriend, deemed a person of interest, has also been taken into custody as part of the investigation, shedding light on potential accomplices in the audacious escape scheme.

Initial findings suggest that Kang'ethe utilized mobile phone numbers registered by relatives to evade law enforcement, with his whereabouts remaining elusive as his phone signals were deliberately disabled.

An unnamed police official disclosed, "The two (Kang'ethe and his brother) linked up moments after the suspect escaped and they have since switched off their mobile phones. It is highly believed that they are currently together."

Subsequent to Kang'ethe's escape, a specialized multi-agency task force was mobilized to track down the fugitive, who had managed to elude authorities for six days.

At the time of his escape, Kang'ethe was awaiting a pivotal ruling regarding his potential extradition to face first-degree murder charges in connection with the tragic death of Kenyan nurse Margaret Mbitu at a US-based airport in November the previous year.

Investigators are diligently assembling evidence to identify individuals with whom Kang'ethe may have been in contact following his escape, aiming to unravel the full extent of the network supporting his evasion of justice.

In a related development, Kang'ethe's cousin, Beatrice Ng'ethe, an advocate, was also taken into custody on Friday of the preceding week. Authorities are probing whether she played a role in facilitating Kang'ethe's release from custody, prompted by phone records indicating ongoing communication between her and the suspect prior to the escape.

An insider within the police force disclosed, "She was released as we investigate the matter," indicating ongoing efforts to ascertain her involvement in the incident.

The brazen escape has garnered widespread international attention, prompting scrutiny over the security protocols at Muthaiga Police Station and raising questions about the adequacy of measures in preventing such occurrences, particularly involving suspects subject to Interpol red notices.
