A startling development in the case of the Sh94 million cash heist from a Wells Fargo cash-in-transit vehicle has emerged, as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intensifies its pursuit of a third suspect.

Initially, the DCI's special operations team had focused on apprehending two suspects, namely Daniel Mungai Mugetha (the crew commander) and Anthony Nduiki Waigumo (the driver), who vanished with the cash at 7:30 am on Monday, November 7.

However, eyewitnesses have now revealed that a third individual played a role in the heist, as they were seen at the scene where the cash-in-transit vehicle was ultimately discovered.

According to accounts from witnesses, the vehicle was initially occupied by only one person when it was parked at a dumpsite in South C along the Southern Bypass. The driver later left and returned with two accomplices, who assisted in loading the stolen cash into a getaway car, subsequently abandoning the cash-in-transit lorry.

Law enforcement authorities are currently scrutinizing CCTV footage in the vicinity of the crime scene to identify and ascertain the identity of the third suspect.

A statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations reveals that the driver and crew commander managed to clandestinely depart from the company headquarters in South C, eluding the police officers assigned to escort them.

"Unaware that truck no. KBA 517T, which they were supposed to escort, had stealthily departed just minutes before, the armed escort team went to inquire from the management about the delay in loading. At that point, neither the truck nor the crew members could be located," the DCI reported.

In the interim, authorities have released photos of the two main suspects and are urging the public to provide any information on their whereabouts.

As the investigation into the audacious robbery deepens, numerous critical questions arise, each of them essential in piecing together the intricate puzzle of this daring heist.
