In a significant legal development, the High Court has issued a summons to Police Inspector General Japhet Koome for his failure to execute an arrest warrant against Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru.

High Court Judge John Chigiti has directed IG Koome to appear in court by October 25 to address this matter.

The controversy surrounds PS Mariru, who stands accused of neglecting to pay Ksh52 million to nine retired Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers. These soldiers had served in the Kenya Airforce during the 1982 attempted coup.

Previously, the court had ordered the government to compensate these soldiers for the torture they endured during that turbulent period, amounting to the aforementioned sum. However, the failure to disburse these funds has led to legal actions, culminating in the current summons to the Police Inspector General.
