Alexander Ezenagu, President William Ruto's son-in-law and the husband of Ruto's eldest daughter, June Ruto, has assumed two prominent roles at Strathmore University.
Ezenagu's recent appointments include the position of Senior Research Fellow at Strathmore University Business School, as well as Director of the newly established Free Trade Department within the institution.
In an official statement, Strathmore University Business School unveiled Ezenagu's pivotal role as the leader of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) Policy and Development Centre.
As part of his responsibilities, Ezenagu will head the center, which is dedicated to conducting cutting-edge research in trade, policy, and investment.
Strathmore University, located in Nairobi, emphasized that Ezenagu, an expert in international law and trade, will play a key role in advancing the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.
Notably, President Ruto and fellow leaders within the African Union (AU) have been staunch advocates for the adoption of the free trade agreement, which is anticipated to significantly enhance intra-African trade.
In a statement, Strathmore University Business School noted, "Ezenagu brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience in the areas of trade and investment."
"The AfCFTA Policy Centre aims to address the unique trade challenges and opportunities facing Africa by conducting cutting-edge research, facilitating knowledge dissemination, and offering capacity-building programs."
Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, Ezenagu conveyed his commitment to leading the institution in addressing trade imbalances across the continent.
"The AfCFTA represents a historic opportunity for the continent, and I am committed to leveraging our expertise to support its successful implementation," he affirmed.
Ezenagu holds a Ph.D. in international tax law from McGill University, Canada, and earned his Master's in Commercial Law from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
His professional focus encompasses international tax law, tax avoidance, and domestic tax matters, positioning him as a valuable asset in driving forward trade and policy initiatives.
