A house-help suspected of killing Rahab Karisa, the Chief Officer of Fisheries and Blue Economy in Kilifi County, has been apprehended by the police in Kakamega as she attempted to escape to Uganda.

The suspect, who hails from Bungoma, had informed some friends of her intention to leave for Uganda temporarily. However, detectives managed to trace her to Kakamega as she sought directions to her intended destination.

Ali Bule, the Coast head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, confirmed the arrest, indicating that the woman was in custody and would be brought back for further investigation.

According to police investigators, the fatal incident occurred after an argument over money between Rahab Karisa and her aunt, which also involved the house help. Rahab had just returned from a week-long work tour in Italy when she discovered that Sh32,000 was missing from the Sh100,000 she had kept at home.

Upon inquiring about the missing money and threatening to involve the police, the situation escalated, leading to a confrontation and a fight. Tragically, Rahab sustained stab wounds during the altercation and bled to death in her house.

Neighbors reported hearing a scream, but they did not realize the severity of the situation until they heard commotion in the compound. Sadly, Rahab's children were in another room, unaware of the tragedy unfolding.

Police investigators revealed that if Rahab had received prompt medical assistance, she might have survived her injuries. However, the lack of immediate help contributed to her tragic demise.

The arrest of the house-help brings some closure to the investigation into the shocking incident. Authorities will continue to gather evidence and statements to determine the full circumstances surrounding the chief officer's untimely death.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing disputes peacefully and seeking assistance promptly in situations of violence or danger. The Kilifi County community mourns the loss of Rahab Karisa, who was dedicated to serving the region in her role as Chief Officer of Fisheries and Blue Economy.
