UPDATE: Thursday, March 30: 14 people died after a Pwani University bus collided head-on with a 14-seater Matatu around Kayole area in Naivasha.
The bus was ferrying students for a games championship scheduled to take place in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
Those who sustained injuries were rushed to the nearby health facility for treatment.
Several students of Pwani University sustained injuries after their bus overturned along the Nairobi - Naivasha Highway at Kayole area on Thursday, March 30.
According to reports, the bus was carrying over 30 students heading to Eldoret to participate in sports competitions.
Students were also filmed assisting their fellow students from the wreckage after the accident.
Those who sustained serious injuries we also rushed to the nearby health facility to receive medical attention.
The bus collided with a 14-seater matatu minutes after 11 am before it overturned.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident was caused by the brake failure of the bus. However, the same is yet to be confirmed.
Following the incident, police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to restore the flow of traffic after a snarl-up was experienced on the highway.
Motorists plying the route were also advised to exercise caution as they approach the area.
"An extremely bad accident involving several cars along Nakuru - Nairobi Highway at Kayole in Naivasha.
"Many are injured. Rescue operations are underway. A great Kenyan Spirit. If you are on the route, expect a snarl-up there," Muhammad Noor advised.
