Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu is expected to release the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results today, Wednesday, December 21.
The CS will present a report of the results to President William Ruto at State House, who returned to the country from his official trip abroad.
Machogu will then announce the results at the Kenya National Examinations Council's (KNEC) new headquarters at Mitihani House which took more than 35 years to complete. This is the second-last edition of the KCPE examinations before the 8-4-4 system of education is completely phased out for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
2, 531, 785 candidates across Kenya took the exams, 1,244, 188 of whom were KCPE candidates while 1, 287,597 were Grade Six pupils.
No cheating
Speaking during the opening of the first examination container in Mombasa on Monday, November 28, Machogu insisted that the integrity of the examination will not be compromised. "We are presenting a credible exam where integrity will not be compromised. There will be no cheating in this exam," said Machogu.
He added that helicopters would help distribute the examinations from the 493 centres across the country. The total number of registered candidates for the three national examinations this year is 3,416,048.
Junior secondary to be domiciled in primary schools
Earlier, Ruto received an interim report from the Presidential Working Party on Education Reform that had been tasked with recommending how to improve the implementation of a Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The Taskforce made a raft of recommendations set to shake the education sector if implemented.
Following the report, the government has directed that junior secondary schools that consist of Grade 7, Grade 8, and Grade 9 will now be domiciled in the existing primary schools.
At the same time, the task force recommended that the ongoing Grade 6 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) should be used to determine the placement to Junior Secondary Schools.
"The Grade 6 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will not be used for placement in Junior Secondary Schools instead, it will be used as an assessment to monitor learning progress and provide feedback to education sector players on areas that require intervention," dispatch from state house read on Thursday, December 1.
