Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has claimed that Justice Aggrey Muchelule was sworn in on Friday night as the chairman of the IEBC tribunal.

In a statement on Friday, Junet responded to Ruto after he said that he has not captured the Judiciary.

"The issue that gave clarity on what you are denying is the swearing of Muchelule on Friday night as the chairman of the IEBC tribunal. If that is clarified then you are yet to capture the Judiciary," he said.

The President said his support to the Judiciary is for the benefit of Kenyans.

"I know there’s a discussion as to why I appear in many Judiciary functions. They can confirm to you that I have never called anybody to ask them to do nothing. My support to the judiciary is so that they can effectively deliver justice to the people of Kenya," he said.

On Friday, Muchelule was appointed to lead the tribunal by President William Ruto.

The tribunal will investigate the four IEBC commissioners facing removal for rejecting the August 2022 presidential election results.

Other lawyers appointed were Carolyne Kamende, Linda Gakii Kiome, Mathew Njaramba, and Saeed Khamis Saeed as members.

Lawyers Kibet Emmanuel and Irene Nchoe were appointed joint secretaries, with Peter Munge as the lead counsel assisted by Zamzam Abdi.

The tribunal is set to decide the fate of the four IEBC commissioners including vice chairperson Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang’aya.

Muchelule is among the six judges that former president Uhuru Kenyatta declined to appoint as Court of Appeal judges.

He was sworn in to join the appellate bench a day after President Ruto assumed office on September 13.
