Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee Kithure Kindiki revealed that he amassed a net worth of about Sh544 million when he appeared before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments on October 18, 2022.
Kindiki explained that his sources of wealth included his law practice, salary from his previous employment as well as entrepreneurship.
"At the moment I am an advocate at the High Court where I practise law.
"I am also a business person running a number of businesses, SMEs and I'm also a consultant for local and international organisations," Kindiki told the committee.
He listed his several sources of income, mentioning that his stock and real estate investments were among his most significant business ventures.
"It's made up of land and buildings of around Sh165 million, bank deposits of about Sh50 million, investment in shares, and deposits in five different saccos," the former Tharaka Nithi Senator said.
Kindiki was also tasked to explain the source of a suspicious Sh500,000 that was deposited in his law firm's accounts.
The law professor explained that he had received the money as payment for a loan he had advanced to Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.
The CS nominee also assured that his calm demeanour would not be mistaken as being timid, adding that he would deal with criminals without fear of favour.
"Humility should not be mistaken for cowardice.. I'll be extremely firm and ruthless with wrong people because 99 percent of our people are law abiding, the one percent that are law breakers we'll be extremely ruthless with them," Kindiki said.
He vowed to sure that no protection is afforded to any officer or any person who is associated with drug cartels and drug barons.
