Motorists plying Langata Road will experience traffic disruption for 12 hours due to ongoing construction and facelifts in the area.

According to a notice issued by Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) on Thursday, October 13, the closure was necessitated by the planned erection of a footbridge.

The footbridge near the Galleria Mall entrance and the U-turn slot at Nyumba Moja Road Junction will be erected from Saturday, October 15, starting at 5.00 am to Sunday, October 16, at 5.00 pm.

"The footbridge installation enhances pedestrians' safety on the busy road.

"KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police on site," KeNHA's notice read in part.

Following the closure, motorists heading towards Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and those heading to Karen will be compelled to share lanes adjacent to the closed road sections of Lang'ata Road.

According to KeNHA, traffic marshalls will be deployed to assist motorists in manoeuvring the area and avoid snarl-ups.

Lang'ata Road was among the areas earmarked for urban mobility plans for the city in the bid to reduce traffic anf enhance the commuter experience.

In August, KeNHA opened the T-Mall bridge along Lang'ata Road after two years of construction. The project launched by former President Uhuru Kenyatta was touted as the ultimate solution to curbing traffic snarl-ups in and out of the capital.

The bridge links Lang’ata, Karen, the Wilson Airport, the army barracks and Nairobi National Park.

To further ease traffic on Lang'ata Road, the government commissioned the Kibera-Southern Bypass interchange expected to have service lanes, slip roads, acceleration and deceleration lanes.

The project was also expected to include underpasses, overpasses, bus bays, bridges, pedestrian bridges and footpaths.
