The office of Isaac Maina Wandere, the proprietor of Wanderjoy Party World, a company that has consistently been charged with the responsibility of organising state events, was raided by serial fraudsters posing as Anti-Corruption officials on Wednesday, February 2.

Wandere, who is a trained meteorologist, was raided by the fraudsters who were reportedly investigating a land fraud case involving one of his premises.

The team forcefully made their way into WanderJoy Party headquarters along Kiambu Road, pulling action movie-like stunts and scaring off the workers.

Led by one of the suspects identified as Gordwins Agutu who has had previous run-ins with the law, the alleged fraudsters made their way into the premise, which is located near the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, driving two top of the range vehicles fitted with strobe lights.

The fraudsters had also acquired services of well built men hanging on the vehicle’s doors in a similar fashion done by highly trained police officers while making raids.

The tycoon, who prides in hosting major events in the country including national holiday celebrations, State House events, and other corporate events, was reportedly harassed by the fraudsters who were demanding bribes in order to go slow on a land fraud case against him.

According to DCI, Agutu was accompanied by David Mburu, who introduced himself as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission deputy director. The guards to the two sealed the entire compound posing as VVIP security detail while flashing walkie-talkies.

Following a tip-off from the members of the public, DCI detectives rushed to the scene which is just two kilometers away, apprehending the two together with their accomplices.

DCI sleuths went on to reveal that Agutu has a history of crime and has been nabbed on several occasions.

“Agutu’s history in fraud stinks to high heaven. When the detectives based at our operations branch checked the DCI criminal database, they discovered that Agutu had previously been arrested in September 2017, masquerading as a Senior Superintendent of Police attached to the Criminal Investigations Department,” DCI stated.

“In his possession were two other employment cards, all indicating that he held senior management positions at the Kenya Revenue Authority and Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board.”

The report further implicated the suspect in the past illegal operation that saw pharmacies and hospitals closed.

“While masquerading as a surveillance officer in the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, the suspect is alleged to have closed down several hospitals for allegedly not meeting certain regulatory requirements.”

This well organised syndicate operates using hired top-of-the-range vehicles, which often use the wrong side of the road with strobe lights flashing from their rooftops and siren blaring for other vehicles to give him way.

The detectives have been granted orders to hold the suspects as they await to take a plea.

The Wanderjoy proprietor on the other hand is a well known figure with his company being hired across the borders to organise events including major regional meetings involving Heads of States.

Wandere is also believed to have bankrolled President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto in the run-up to the presidential election in 2017

In December 2018,  Kenyatta awarded Wandere with the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) medal.
