Fresh details have emerged on how the lynching of three men at Junju in Chonyi, Kilifi County was planned to look like a case of kidnapping on Wednesday, July 8.

Security officials working on the case have established that the three men were lured to their death by one of the notorious gangs blamed for land invasion in the area.

The gang after successfully luring them into the target area raised a fake alarm that the three were out to kidnap children which led to their lynching by an irate mob.

The three were a father and son of Indian Origin and a farmhand who had accompanied them to inspect a piece of land in the area. This is according to the Preliminary report from Coast Regional Commander John Elangata

Governor Amason Kingi addressing the incident stated that he has received reports about some tycoons threatening to evict the locals in the area. But he stated that land disputes cannot be solved through the murdering of people.

“I know some land disputes have ended in Killings and destruction of property. I will not allow this to continue. You cannot win a land case by killing another person. A panga and a knife will not assist in any way but instead will be a recipe for frustrations and destructions,” Kingi said.

The governor promised to work with the Ministry of Lands to solve the land conflict in the area which has given rise to gangs terrorizing residents.

He added that the county has formed a high–level team led by county lands executive Maureen Mwangovya and county Attorney Bibi Fondo that will investigate all title deeds and court orders in the hand of tycoons in the area using to evict the locals.

The team is expected to submit a detailed report after a month to allow the governor to make the decision to end the land conflict in the area.

Land activists in the area Nagib Shamsan claimed that the youths and boda boda operators are being used by some powerful individuals working closely with land officials to defraud genuine landowners in the region.

“There are economic gains in land invasions where the youth, mostly the boda boda operators are used by some individuals who work in cahoots with lawyers and officers from the land office to defraud genuine landowners,” Shamsan said.

Three arrests have been made so far in connection to the murder as Inspector General of Police on Sunday, July 10 issued marching orders on the case.

One of the murdered men has once been feted by President Uhuru. He is a famous businessman who owns a Dairy Farm in Kilifi.

Sumra runs a successful dairy farm known as Sumra Dairy Farm which is located in Kikambala-Amkeni in Kilifi.

In August 2016, he was feted by President Uhuru Kenyatta after emerging as the top farmer during the Mombasa Agricultural show.
