Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko found himself playing the role of peacemaker on Monday when he intervened to defuse a tense situation involving blogger Andrew Kibe and an angry mob in Nairobi.
In a video capturing the incident, Sonko can be seen calming down the agitated crowd, who were apparently seeking retribution against Kibe for previous disputes with the ex-governor.
The confrontation occurred during a TikTok live session where Kibe was hosting Sonko at a restaurant along Ngong Road. A group of irate youths, believed to be from Kibra, descended on the location, demanding Kibe's expulsion.
Claiming they were alerted to Kibe's whereabouts through his social media posts, the youths were pacified by Sonko's intervention, eventually dispersing from the scene.
The situation nearly escalated into violence as one of the youths openly expressed a desire to harm the blogger due to his controversial remarks on various issues.
During the interview, Sonko disclosed that he is presently unemployed and maintaining a low profile, marking a significant departure from his previous high-profile political engagements.
Last year, Sonko and Kibe engaged in a social media spat after the former governor admonished Kibe for discussing him on his YouTube channel and intruding into his personal life. Sonko voiced his displeasure over Kibe's alleged disparagement of Kenyan celebrities, particularly women.
In response, Kibe posted a video lambasting Sonko, labeling him a "loser" and advising him to adopt a more humble demeanor.
However, during the recent encounter, the two men appeared to have reconciled their differences, sharing drinks and exchanging banter during the live interview streamed on Sonko's Twitter account.
