Man denies personating CAK officer, released on KSh500,000 bond

A man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of personating an officer of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK).

Francis Tonny appeared before Milimani Resident Magistrate Joan Mati on August 14, 2026, where he denied the charge of personation contrary to Section 382 of the Penal Code.

The court heard that between August 7 and 13, 2026, at Meiso Company offices situated at Zahra Plaza, 1st Floor, along River Road in Nairobi County, Tonny allegedly falsely represented himself as an officer of CAK.

The prosecution alleges that Tonny knew he was not an officer of the authority and made the representation with the intention of deceiving employees of the company.

The accused was arrested on August 13, 2026, and presented before the court on August 14, 2026.

The prosecution did not oppose Tonny's release on bail but urged the court to take into consideration the nature of the charges he is facing.

Magistrate Mati subsequently released Tonny on a bond of KSh500,000 with a surety of a similar amount, or an alternative cash bail of KSh100,000 with two contact persons.

The court directed that the case be mentioned on September 1, 2026, for further directions.
