A total of 4,949 Wings to Fly and Elimu Scholarship scholars have gained leadership, life skills and career-readiness skills at the Equity Group Foundation’s 17th Annual Education and Leadership Congress.

Held under the theme “Lead, Solve, Sustain: Turning Challenges into Solutions,” the Congress challenged scholars to think critically, harness technology, tackle real-world challenges and lead with integrity.

The programme seeks to prepare young people not only to navigate the future of work, but also to shape the future through innovation, problem-solving and responsible leadership.

Addressing the scholars, Dr James Mwangi, Executive Chairman of Equity Group Foundation and Managing Director and CEO of Equity Group Holdings Plc, emphasised that opportunity is only the beginning.

He urged the scholars to recognise that while an opportunity can open a door, the choices they make, skills they acquire and problems they choose to solve will ultimately determine the impact they create.

The Congress also brought together education leaders and development partners, including Ambassador Sebastian Groth, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kenya, who underscored the importance of investing in young people as an investment in Kenya’s human capital and future.

Jeremiah Kipaiyu, Kikuyu Sub-County Director of Education, reaffirmed the Ministry of Education’s partnership with Equity Group Foundation in expanding access to education and creating opportunities for learners.

The latest cohort adds to a growing network of 60,009 young people who have benefited from the Wings to Fly and Elimu Scholarship programmes.

Through mentorship, leadership development and career preparation, the initiative continues to equip a new generation with the tools to LEAD with integrity, SOLVE with courage and creativity, and SUSTAIN impact that lasts.
