Large parts of Kenya are set for a mix of sunshine and mid-week showers, according to a new forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department, which warns that several major towns could see rainfall from Tuesday through Saturday.

In its weekly update, the agency said that Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kiambu, Meru, Machakos, and Kitui are among the regions likely to experience rains between 18 and 22 November.

While much of the country will remain dry, the weatherman noted that shifting afternoon conditions may bring brief showers to several highland counties.

Nairobi and Central Kenya: Mostly Sunny, With Mid-Week Showers

Counties including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi will see sunny conditions for most of the week.

However, the department says Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons may bring scattered showers.

Night-time conditions will remain mostly cloudy, with temperatures ranging from a high of 29°C to a low of 6°C in some high-altitude zones.

Eastern and Southeastern Kenya: Frequent Showers

Residents in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta and inland areas of Tana River should expect showers for most of the week, both day and night.

Only Saturday morning is likely to remain fully sunny.

Maximum temperatures could reach 34°C, with lows of about 16°C.

Coastal Strip: Light Rains and Warm Nights

Along the coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale and parts of Tana River, brief showers are expected in isolated areas.

Nights will be partly cloudy, except on Thursday, when rain is likely.

Temperatures will remain warm, between 23°C at night and 33°C during the day.

Western Kenya and Rift Valley: Thunderstorms Possible

The strongest activity is expected in western Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley.

Counties including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot may experience rains and thunderstorms, mainly during the day.

Saturday is expected to be sunny.

Temperatures will range from 31°C to 8°C, depending on elevation.

Northern Kenya: Hot and Briefly Wet

Counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo may experience rains through Thursday, followed by sunny conditions on Friday and Saturday.

Nights will remain cloudy.

Maximum temperatures could rise to 38°C, with lows of around 16°C.

Further north, Turkana and Samburu are expected to stay sunny all week, with cloudy nights and temperatures reaching 37°C in some areas.
