Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has contributed KSh 1 million to help cover the funeral costs of gospel singer Betty Bayo, while also pledging full scholarships for her children through the Kenyatta Foundation, his office has announced.

The news was delivered to Bayo’s family on 15 November 2025 by Kanze Dena-Mararo, Uhuru’s communications director. She visited the family, offering condolences and reassurance at a time the family described as deeply painful.

“Please extend my sympathies … we have also brought a donation … that is Uhuru Kenyatta,” a message carried by Dena read, according to local media.

A Promise for Her Children

In addition to the financial gift, Uhuru committed to covering the education costs of Betty Bayo’s children via the Kenyatta Foundation.

Officials say he has already asked for the names of her two children so the foundation can make the necessary arrangements.

In his tribute, Uhuru described Bayo as “an extraordinary minister of the gospel whose music uplifted countless hearts … her legacy will endure through her children, her music, and the many lives she touched.”

How the Donation Was Delivered

The contribution was handed over on 13 November during a burial planning meeting held at Blue Springs Hotel. The donation came via Muthoni wa Kirumba, a known media personality also acting on behalf of the former president.

The funeral committee has estimated the cost of Bayo’s final send-off to be KSh 3 million, according to local reports — meaning Uhuru’s donation covers a sizable portion of the expenses.

Legacy Beyond Songs

Betty Bayo, known for her hit “Busy Busy”, passed away on 10 November 2025 at Kenyatta National Hospital, following a struggle with acute leukaemia.

Her death prompted an outpouring of support across Kenya’s gospel community, and Uhuru’s gesture has been widely praised as a timely and meaningful act of solidarity.

For the family, the financial and educational pledges are more than just assistance — they are a public recognition of Bayo’s impact and a commitment to her children’s future.
